David Ogle started the company in 1985, after working for years in his family’s
traditional mattress business. In fact, both his father and grandfather were
mattress makers. “After years of learning how to make the most comfortable
mattresses money could buy, I decided to take that experience and apply it to
the marine environment,” Ogle said.
Thousands of boating customers around the world already thank him for that decision.
It’s a fact that many expensive, high-quality boats come with cheap foam
mattresses. Ogle decided it didn’t have to be that way. “Who says
you can’t enjoy the same high level of sleeping comfort on your boat that
you have in your home?” he asks.
Handcraft Mattress Company quickly developed a loyal following by bringing the
same technology that was revolutionizing home mattresses to the marine environment – and
adding a few innovations, like the patented Hinge-Fold, of our own.
Today, Handcraft Mattress is the world’s leading supplier of custom-made
mattresses for marine use, not only to boaters but also to Original Equipment

Today, operating from two factories located in Irvine, Calif., and Fort Lauderdale,
Fla., the employees of Handcraft Mattress Company are dedicated to continuing
the Ogle family tradition of making the world’s most comfortable mattresses
for boaters. The fourth generation of Ogles is now in place, with Brian Ogle,
Dave’s son, managing the Irvine location.
